Mexican Bars Shine in Global Rankings

According to The World's 50 Best Bars 2024, the new leader of the list is Handshake Speakeasy, located in the colony of Juárez in Mexico. Experts from various countries selected the best bars in the world, and the top spot on this list belongs to a Mexican establishment. Every year in October, a prestigious ranking is published by the British publication William Reed Business Media.

Also entering this guest list are bars from the USA, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Italy, but the title of the best establishment is awarded to Mexico. The list also features Guadalajara's El Gallo Altanero and Licorería Limantour.

El Gallo Altanero, a bar from Guadalajara, entered the ranking in 48th place and also secured 14th position in the list of the 50 best bars in North America. This establishment is inspired by agave and primarily offers alcohol from independent producer Halisco.

On the other hand, in the city of Mexico, Licorería Limantour is located at 32nd place, dropping 25 positions compared to the previous ranking. The primary focus here is on Mexican producers, such as bacanora, sotol, poxtli, and raicilla. The menu of this establishment is under the guidance of Eli Martin Bello.

Handshake Speakeasy topped the list of the best bars, and also received the award for the best bar in North America in 2024. The bar is known for its menu, which changes every two months, and specializes in local drinks.

Other bars, such as Tlecān, debuted in 2024 and have already achieved notable success, taking 20th place in the ranking. Alfredo Andreasson, the leading bartender at Handshake Speakeasy, notes that "regular customers come for cocktails and stay for the bar's atmosphere."

Prices for cocktails at these establishments range from 150 to 300 pesos. Handshake Speakeasy offers alcoholic drinks like Salt-N-Pepper, Sencha, Big in Japan, Campfire, Coffee Fizz, Matcha Dame Blanche, Caprese, Banana Split, Coconut & Fig Negroni.

The gastronomic diversity and cultural heritage of Mexico do not seize to influence the global community, offering unique bars with authentic drinks and atmospheres.
